The Wrist Anatomy
Like any synovial joint the capsule is dual layered. It consists of the distal ends of the radius and ulna bones eight carpal bones and the proximal ends of five metacarpal bones.
The wrist is composed of eight or nine small short bones carpal bones roughly arranged in two rows.
The wrist anatomy. Distally the proximal row of the carpal bones except the pisiform. The wrist is a complex mechanical system of 8 small bones known as the carpal bones. Wrist also called carpus complex joint between the five metacarpal bones of the hand and the radius and ulna bones of the forearm.
One row connects with the ends of the bones in the forearm radius and ulna. It is relatively prone to injury. This arrangement of bones allows for a wide range of movement.
The bones comprising the wrist include the distal ends of the radius and ulna 8 carpal bones and the proximal portions of the 5 metacarpal bones see the images below. The wrist is a series of small joints that connects the radius and ulna the 2 bones in the forearm to the carpals in the hand. A patients guide to wrist anatomy introduction.

The wrist links the hand to the arm. In human anatomy the wrist is variously defined as 1 the carpus or carpal bones the complex of eight bones forming the proximal skeletal segment of the hand. 2 the wrist joint or radiocarpal joint the joint between the radius and the carpus and 3 the anatomical region surrounding the carpus including the distal parts of the bones of the forearm and the proximal parts of the metacarpus or five metacarpal bones and the series of joints between these bones thus referred to as wrist joints.
The wrist is a series of small joints that connects the radius and ulna the 2 bones in the forearm to the carpals in the hand. Palmar radiocarpal it is found on the palmar anterior side of the hand. Use the mouse to scroll or the arrows.
The wrist connects the hand to the forearm. It is actually a collection of multiple bones and joints. Copyright c 2005 2019 alex freitas md.
Anatomy of the hand and wrist. The smaller bone the ulna is on the little finger side. The important structures of the wrist can be divided into several categories.
The larger bone the radius is on the same side as the thumb. The carpal bones are arranged in 2 interrelated rows. The wrist can bend straighten move laterally and rotate.
Structures of the wrist joint articulating surfaces. There are two long bones in the forearm that run from the elbow to the wrist. The wrist is a complex joint that bridges the hand to the forearm.
The anatomy of the wrist joint is extremely complex probably the most complex. As you can see the wrist is a complex area of the body.
