Brachial artery anatomy. The brachial artery may diverge from its usual course along the medial aspect. The brachial artery continues from the axillary artery at the shoulder and travels down the underside of the arm. It is a medium sized artery and is actually a continuation of the axillary artery from the region of the axilla into the arm.

It then divides into the radial and ulnar arteries which run down the forearm. The brachial artery occupies the middle of the space and divides opposite the neck of the radius into the radial and ulnar arteries. It continues down the ventral surface of the arm until it reaches the cubital fossa at the elbow.

It is the continuation of the axillary artery beyond the lower margin of teres major muscle. The brachial artery is the major blood vessel of the upper arm. Brachial artery is the main arterial supply of the upper limb providing the blood supply to nearly all of its structures.

The brachial artery also terminates into the radial artery which proceeds under the brachioradialis muscle which is what allows the wrist to bend backward.
