Anatomy of eyeball. The eyeball is a bilateral and spherical organ which houses the structures responsible for vision. Anatomically the eyeball can be divided into three parts the fibrous vascular and inner layers. It lies in a bony cavity within the facial skeleton known as the bony orbit.

The inside lining of the eye is covered by special light sensing cells that are collectively called the retina. The orbit is formed by the cheekbone the forehead the temple and the side of the nose. Muscles responsible for moving the eyeball are attached to the eyeball at the sclera.

The sclera is outermost layer of the eyeball. Working in concert with the aqueous humour behind it the cornea provides the greatest focusing power of the eye. At the front of the eyeball the sclera becomes the cornea.

In addition to the eyeball itself the orbit contains the muscles that move the eye blood vessels and nerves. It is the white and opaque part of the eyeball. It converts light into electrical impulses.

However unlike the lens the shape and focusing power of the cornea are not adjustable. Behind the eye your optic nerve carries. At the front of the eye the tear film covers the transparent cornea the window through which light passes into the eye.
