Each bronchopulmonary segment is served by corresponding branches of the bronchial tree along with their own arterial supply.

Lung segmental anatomy. Each segment is supplied by its own bronchus which is called a segmental bronchus. The lungs can be further subdivided into bronchopulmonary segments. The oblique and horizontal fissure divides the lungs into superior middle and inferior lobes.

Each lobe is supplied by a lobar bronchus. Boydens method of numbering the bronchi is extremely effective in correlating the segmental anatomy of the lung with what is seen in the roentgenogram of the chest especially when the bronchi are rendered opaque by contrast media. The oblique fissure in the left lung separates the superior and the inferior lobe.

There are ten such segments located within the right lung and roughly 8 9 on the left side as some of the segments may fuse together. The middle lobe on the right has 2 segments. You should be familiar with this anatomy already.

With this basic symmetric anatomy shared between the lungs there are a few differences that can be described.
