Skin Layers Anatomy
The epidermis of thick skin has five layers. Together the epidermis and dermis form the cutaneous layer.
Beneath the dermis lies the hypodermis which is composed mainly of loose connective and fatty tissues.
Skin layers anatomy. The epidermis the outermost layer of skin provides a waterproof barrier and creates our skin tone. It holds most of the bodys fat so it varies in thickness from one person to another. The dermis is the middle layer of the three layers of skin.
The skin is composed of two main layers. The outer layer is called the epidermis. Skin has three layers.
Accessory structures hair glands and nails are found associated with the skin. Its located between the epidermis and the subcutaneous tissue. Skin that has four layers of cells is referred to as thin skin from deep to superficial these layers are the stratum basale stratum spinosum stratum granulosum and stratum corneum.
It contains connective tissue blood capillaries oil and sweat glands nerve endings and hair follicles. This layer provides insulation for your body keeping you warm. Most of the skin can be classified as thin skin.
The most superficial layer of the skin is the epidermis which is attached to the deeper dermis. The dermis beneath the epidermis contains tough connective tissue hair. These three layers differ in function thickness and strength.
The stratum basale is a single layer of cells primarily made of basal cells. It is a tough protective layer that contains the melanin producing melanocytes. The deeper layer of skin is well vascularized has numerous blood vessels and is superficial to the hypodermics.
This layer is also where the vasculature and nerves live. The layer of skin beneath the dermis is sometimes called the subcutaneous fat subcutis or hypodermis layer. The epidermis made of closely packed epithelial cells and the dermis made of dense irregular connective tissue that houses blood vessels hair follicles sweat glands and other structures.
The subcutaneous layer area below the skin lies underneath the cutaneous layer and is sometimes called the hypodermis or superficial fascia. Basically the skin is comprised of two layers that cover a third fatty layer. A basal cell is a cuboidal shaped stem cell that is a precursor of the keratinocytes of the epidermis.
Stratum basale stratum spinosum stratum granulosum stratum lucidum and stratum corneum. This lower layer of the skin contains collagen and elastic fibers that give strength to the skin. Thick skin is found only on the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet.
