Anatomy

Snakes like all reptiles are covered in scales that protect them from abrasion or dehydration.

Anatomy snake. The body of any snake is very interesting. One is attached to each mandible. Snakes belong to the reptile group.

Many species of snakes have skulls with several more joints than their lizard ancestors enabling them to swallow prey much larger than their heads with their highly mobile jaws. Most species have only one functioning lung although many have a second vestigial essentially non functioning or only marginally functional lung. Most venomous snakes substitute fangs for the maxillary teeth.

Most of them dont have any limbs so they have to use that body to help them climb and to move around on the ground. They lack the moveable eyelids limbs sternums urinary bladder and ear openings. Two rows attached to the maxillary outer bones and two rows attached to the palatine and pterygoid inner bones.

Like all other squamates snakes are ectothermic amniote vertebrates covered in overlapping scales. So snakes are not able to crush its prey with the jaw. The body of the snake is so narrow and elongated.

Nonvenomous snakes have four rows of upper teeth. It is long and flexible which allows them to stretch out or to coil up. The organs in the snake body are necessarily elongated.

Only two rows are on the lower jaw. The scales on the top and sides of the snake are smaller and thinner than those found on the belly side. Snakes are elongated legless carnivorous reptiles of the suborder serpentes.

To accommodate their narrow bodies snakes paired organs appear one in front of the other instead of side by side and most have only one fu. The quadrate bones that connect the skull to the lower jaw are long and flexible. Snakes can move along very quietly though and they can also be very fast.
