Stomach anatomy antrum. Right gastric branch of the common hepatic artery which arises from the coeliac trunk. Hollow viscus with a prominent multi layer wall. The narrower end is called the pyloric canal which connects to the duodenum.

The greater omentum attaches the stomach to the transverse colon spleen and diaphragm. Between the liver anteriorly and the pancreas posteriorly important landmarks. The arterial supply to the stomach comes from the celiac trunk and its branches.

The antrum holds the broken down food until it is ready to be released into the small intestine. The common mesentery suspends the small intestine. It is sometimes called the pyloric antrum.

The gastric antrum is the end of the stomach that closes during the digestion of food and opens again to allow the passage of the digested food when the process completes. The stomach is suspended from the abdominal wall by the lesser omentum. The antrum is the lower part of the stomach.

The lesser curvature forms the shorter concave border and the greater curvature forms the longer convex border of the stomach. The smooth muscle pyloric sphincter is located at this latter point of connection and controls stomach emptying. The parietal peritoneum lies over the duodenum and other structures such as the abdominal aorta.

The lower section of the stomach that facilitates emptying into the small intestine located on the right of the midline at the level of l1. Is the most amenable to sonographic examination and accurately reflects the content of the entire stomach. The pylorus is the part of the stomach that connects to the small intestine.

Left lobe of the liver. Anastomoses form along the lesser curvature by the right and left gastric arteries and along the greater curvature by the right and left gastro omental arteries. The lower oesophageal sphincter found in the cardiac region at the junction of the oesophagus and stomach and the pyloric sphincter at the junction of the stomach with the duodenum.

The wider end of the funnel the pyloric antrum connects to the body of the stomach. This part of the stomach is usually called the pyloric antrum.
