A double layer of fascia called the renal fascia completely encloses the kidney and the adipose capsule firmly anchoring them to the abdominal wall. The kidneys are a pair of bean shaped organs on either side of your spine below your ribs and behind your belly. Each kidney is surrounded by three layers of tissue.
